Nestled in the Himalayan foothills, McLeod Ganj is a vibrant town known for its deep spiritual roots and rich Tibetan heritage. Often called “Little Lhasa,” it became world-famous as the residence of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and the headquarters of the Tibetan Government in Exile.
Colorful prayer flags flutter across rooftops, and the streets buzz with life — Tibetan cafés serve warm momos, artisans sell handmade crafts and thangkas, and bookstores brim with spiritual texts and philosophical works. The air carries the scent of incense and the soft murmur of Tibetan chants.
At the heart of the town lies the Tsuglagkhang Temple, where monks and devotees gather for prayer and meditation. Visitors can stroll through peaceful gardens, spin the sacred prayer wheels, and, at times, attend public teachings by the Dalai Lama himself.
McLeod Ganj is more than a spiritual destination — it’s a hub for cultural exchange and humanitarian work. Many Tibetan organizations and learning centers offer opportunities to volunteer, join film screenings, or simply converse with monks eager to practice their English.
Whether you’re drawn by faith, culture, or curiosity, McLeod Ganj offers a unique and meaningful experience unlike anywhere else.
